Baker & McKenzie Represents Gap in its Franchise Deal for Expansion in Mexico
Deal Gives Gap Direct Access to the World’s 10th Largest Clothing Market
Mexico City, September 20, 2008 - Baker & McKenzie in Mexico assisted apparel manufacturer Gap, Inc. (GAP) to grant exclusive rights to Mexican department store chain Distribuidora Liverpool, S.A. de C.V. (Liverpool) to sell Gap brand merchandise in franchise stores starting spring 2009.
Baker & McKenzie assisted Gap in all legal matters regarding this deal. Sergio Legorreta, leading Baker & McKenzie Partner in the transaction, said: “This work demonstrates Baker & McKenzie’s abilities to seamlessly interact between offices and countries, as well as to apply local knowledge to the fullest extent, in this case, through intellectual property and franchise expertise.”
Gap had previously worked with Mexico’s Liverpool through a wholesale agreement, introducing Gap apparel “in a limited manner” to Mexican consumers. The agreement gives Gap direct access to the world’s 10th largest clothing market.
