San Diego, CA, August 19, 2008 – Kandace Watson, Corporate & Securities Partner in Baker & McKenzie LLP’s San Diego office, recently spoke at the National Bar Association’s (NBA) 83rd Annual Convention in Houston, Texas.
Ms. Watson served as the moderator for a panel entitled “A Dialogue with General Counsels and Top Legal Advisors of International Companies,” which included representatives from companies including Liberty Mutual, Golden State Foods and Schering-Plough. Topics discussed: the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; cross-border mergers & acquisitions; differences between common law as used in English speaking countries and civil law, which is used by most other nations; and international corporate governance and compliance; among others.
Ms. Watson commented, “The event brought together some of the top legal minds who run international companies day-to-day to talk about the practical aspects of legal compliance in the global marketplace. The discussions were filled with valuable insights and advice.”
Ms. Watson concentrates her practice in international transactions, including corporate compliance and governance for domestic and multi-national companies, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions/reductions in operations, post-acquisition integration, domestic and cross-border capital raising transactions, licensing and commercial transactions. Corporate boards and executive management teams seek her advice regarding all aspects of their strategic planning and ongoing operations.
Ms. Watson was recognized as one of the “Forty under 40” for 2006 by The Business Journal in Phoenix, Arizona. She is an active member of the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, and State Bars of California and Arizona. Ms. Watson is also a member of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association, where she previously served on the Board. She also regularly presents and writes on corporate issues to industry, trade and legal organizations.
